Introduction

The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and best equipped departments in the University. Currently, we have more than 20 faculty members actively engaged in teaching and research in virtually all branches of frontier chemistry. The enrolment of undergraduate and postgraduate students is currently around 250 and 100 respectively. The Department is located at the University Science Centre occupying a total floor area of over 3,000 square metres. It has undergone a massive renovation programme in recent years to upgrade all teaching and research laboratories with up-to-date fixtures, providing an excellent environment for studies.

The Department is committed to continually upgrade the standard of its undergraduate teaching and graduate research. It endeavours to further enhance its international status as a centre of chemical research. In particular, more research projects of an applied nature will be initiated and collaboration with scientists in other parts of the world, especially China, will be intensified.
