Welcome to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, CUHK.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is the largest of the four departments at the Faculty of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. With about 25 academic staff, the Department offers teacher education courses to support Faculty-level programmes leading to the PGDE and the degrees of BEd, BA&BEd, MEd, MA, MPhil, PhD and EdD. The courses are designed to cultivate expertise in teaching and curriculum development as well as to equip teachers and educators with relevant professional and academic qualifications.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is committed to producing cutting-edge research on substantive educational issues of both local relevance and international significance. These include curriculum and instruction related issues such as curriculum design, implementation and evaluation, language education, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, eLearning as well as issues relating to teachers’ professional knowledge, training and development.
Our colleagues conduct research funded by research grants from a range of funding agencies, including the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, Education Bureau, Quality Education Fund (QEF), Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR). Many of our faculty members are involved in international research collaborations with overseas partners in different parts of the world, including the USA, Canada, Singapore, Mainland China, and Taiwan. We organize research seminars on a regular basis, featuring our own faculty and international scholars. To encourage collaboration and synergy among colleagues and research students, we have four research clusters: language education, Mathematics education, teachers’ professional development, curriculum studies, and STEM education.
Through teaching, research and service to local educational bodies and committees, members of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction play an active role in promoting professional development in the education field.
